history

Sean was born into a family that was part of a stable coven of witches in Portland. He grew up surrounded by love and support, giving him a very content and peaceful childhood. He came into his power early and trained them rigorously because he was exceptionally strong. Most of his family and coven have to do rituals and other careful magic practices to wield the sort of power that comes naturally to Sean. The elements just bend to his will. He favors fire and air magics above others.

When his younger siblings came along Sean immediately named himself their protector. He would stand up for them if bullied and pushed them to do their best no matter what. It led to some clashes with his little brother who is a lot more loose and free spirited than Sean. No matter what he loves them unconditionally.

It was his father that instilled his deep sense of justice and fairness. As the head of the coven his father is responsible for enforcing the rules and making sure that no one abuses the magic the coven can do. His mother is more the spiritual advisor to the coven.

He went away to Boston for college and ended up settling there when he finished with his history degree. While just getting started on his Masters, he noticed signs someone was working some dark magic in the city. He took the evidence to the local coven, which he was not a part of, and they said they would look into it. When nothing happened and the magic continued to darken the area to the point of animal sacrifice, Sean acted on his own.

He confronted the witch who was responsible and told them to stop or else. The witch chose what else. While they had dark magic on their side, Sean’s connection with the elements proved stronger. He killed the witch and destroyed their notes on what they were doing.

At first, Sean was troubled by what he had done. He thought the elements would turn from him for using them to kill as it went against everything he’d been taught but they didn’t. There’s a ruthlessness to nature that his family didn’t acknowledge often but it was there. It was in him, apparently. That realization put him on a path of hunting those who used dark magic and other supernatural creatures who killed innocent people. He has a very well known reputation in Boston for his abilities. People fear and respect him.

His family and childhood coven have mixed feelings about what he does. Some see it as necessary for balance and protecting people. Others think he’s dangerous. Sean has no intentions of stopping what he does.

During the day he is a political history professor who students consider kind of dry.

While the real world is mostly various shades of gray, Sean has a strict stance on right and wrong. When a line is crossed, he is not good at compromise or mercy. He can be incredibly ruthless when hunting down black magic and those that use it. His focus is intense to say the least and when he gets absorbed in something, it's very difficult to distract him. While he does have it in him to give people second chances, they’ve got an uphill battle proving they’re worthy of it.

He deeply respects the power he has and where it comes from. Sean is aware power like his is incredibly rare. That he was given the ability to use it by the elements is deeply important to him. That is why he hates those who abuse magic for their own gain or the sick pleasure of it. Nothing infuriates him more than a lack of respect for magic and life itself.

He is a very serious person and straight forward. Sean has a dry sense of humor leaning towards the sarcastic. He is endlessly patient for family and friends, though he can be baffled by them. Often when he gives advice it can come across as condescending but he does mean well and speaks from a place of love. The right words can make him realize he’s being a dick and he’ll do his best to correct but that stick in the mud is hard to move. He does love, quite strongly, but can be difficult to love in return given his strict and stoic nature.

Elemental control: Sean can summon the elements to do all sorts of magic for him. He can summon a thunderstorm or throw fire from his hands though these dramatic shows of power are reserved for fighting black magic. He rarely does such things outside of that fight.

Ritual Magic: Sean knows many coven spells that require a lot of prep and other people to cast. These powerful spells are different from his elemental work and he usually only practices them with his family coven.

Hand to Hand combat: While not a black belt Sean does have some basic training in hand to hand combat. It is rare he’ll use this over his magical power but it has proven useful. He mostly uses it as a way to stay in shape.
